We know and love our Surf Coast for the lifestyle, the locals, the laid-back atmosphere.
But for some, life is tough.
Some people need a little help.
And luckily, there are some locals who are stepping up.
Feed Me Surf Coast was established in March 2020 as a direct response to the community need for support with the very basic essentials of life. Established under the umbrella of the founding charity Feed Me Bellarine, this not-for-profit organisation collects spare food and excess produce from local businesses and delivers it to where it’s needed most. Locals doing it tough.
Feed Me’s Brooke Murphy explains…
“The ethos of Feed Me Surf Coast is no questions, no agenda. If a family is
having problems, such as needing to put food on the table, whether it be for a
week or a month or a year, , we are there.”
It’s a community need that unfortunately continues to grow.
“The first week we started delivering there was seven households, and we’re now up to around 120 individual households but we also do five bulk deliveries a week, which in total is feeding around 1200 people.”
This amazing work takes extraordinary community effort.
Each week a dedicated team of volunteers give their time and energy to prepare the “rescued and donated” food
The Torquay Lions Club members do the household deliveries of fresh, nutritious food.
And JAKK & CO are donating 10% of every online purchase this Christmas to help support this vital work.
People are stepping up, reaching out, lending a helping hand.
That’s the Surf Coast way.
